Summer Music Festivals

It's already July! Time to get out in the sun and hear some great music. New York has some awesome summer festivals, some that are even free. Go to as many as you can - these festivals aren't all year round!

1. Central Park Summerstage: Each summer Central Park, located in Manhattan, has a concert series, some of which are free. I've personally enjoyed this venue for it's open park atmosphere despite it being in a highly populated urban area. City Parks Foundation

2. Northside Festival: Located in Brooklyn's trendy Williamsburg, this is a week long festival featuring an eclectic lineup of hip hop groups such as Run the Jewels and indie rock bands. The festival also serves to showcase films and local artists' projects. Northside Festival

3. Lincoln Center Out of Doors: This festival features concerts in various parks from July 22 to August 9. They really do showcase a very broad spectrum of musicians, artists, films, music genres, and writers, giving you a well-rounded summer experience. Lincoln Center Out of Doors

4. Celebrate Brooklyn!: As the name states, this festival takes place all over Brooklyn over a multitude of dates. Again, they have done a great job showcasing very different types of music and other art forms. Celebrate Brooklyn

5. NY Philharmonic Concert in the Parks: Celebrating their 50th year, the NY Phil always puts on a great show. Relax in one of the many parks around NYC and have a picnic while the NY Phil puts on a spectacular free concert! NY Philharmonic Concert in the Parks
