Live Music this Summer

With the absence of classes, summer is the perfect season to check out new and/or live music. Music was truly meant to be heard and seen live, this being it's rawest and most invigorating form. Many of these summer concerts are free. Here are just a couple you should check out!

1. NY Philharmonic Concerts in the Park: Due to the fledgling economy the NY Phil had to unfortunately cut their Hecksher State Park Concert offered on Long Island (which was definitely a fun experience I remember as a kid). Regardless, the NY Phil still offers free concerts in all boroughs of New York City - some even come with a spectacular fireworks show at the end!

2. Newport Jazz Festival: Located in Newport, Rhode Island, this festival is in it's 60th year, showcasing some of the greatest jazz musicians in the world. While tickets aren't free, they are sure to be sold out so get yours soon!

3. Central Park Summerstage Festival: Throughout the summer, NYC's Central Park invites world-renowned artists to perform here. Past artists have been major rock bands such as Foo Fighters, Neil Young and The Black Keys, just to name a few. I personally am attending the Beck concert this summer. Check it out!

4. Governors Ball: Located in NYC's Randall's Island, this concert boasts some of the biggest names in the game, including The Strokes and recently reunited, critically acclaimed hip-hop group Outkast. Tickets are a bit pricey, but well worth it.

5. The Great GoogaMooga: This festival happens May 17-19 and may even be sold out, so get your tickets now! Staged in Brooklyn's beautiful Prospect Park, they have a great line-up, including The Flaming Lips, which perhaps is the most fun rock band I've ever seen in my life!

6. Center Stage Teacher Showcase: We are excited to announce that our talented Center Stage teachers will be putting on a showcase at the Piazza on Post Avenue in Westbury on July 19th. We will be playing all different genres of music from classical to pop to jazz. This is a great opportunity to see your teachers doing what they do best; playing music! More information on this event will be coming soon!

Enjoy, and don't forget to check out your local bars and restaurants for live bands as well!
