National Bullying Prevention Month

This month is National Bullying Prevention Month and that is definitely a cause that we can get behind! In this day and age, there are so many people getting bullied. Bullying isn’t happening just at school anymore, it’s also happening over the internet. This means that bullying is now occurring 24/7, which often leads to harsh and tragic consequences. This is an epidemic that we, as adults, need to take the initiative to change.

Here’s a few things to remember, this month and always:

  • If you see something, say something: Even if you are not the person being bullied, getting bullied is never fun. If you see someone bullying, please step in to let them know that it is NOT COOL. When you stand by idly, you are just as accountable for the bullying as the person who is doing it. (This goes for in-person AND online bullying.)
  • Anti-bullying starts at home: Teaching your kids kindness helps a lot! Learning to value acts of kindness, over popularity, can help to ease the amount of children who are doing bullying, in turn easing the amount of children being bullied.
  • Check yourself before you wreck yourself: We need to be conscious of the words we use, and the things we say, especially in front of children. They catch on quickly and learn behaviors from those around them. Don’t be that person spreading negativity and leading others down that path.
  • Finding a healthy outlet at a young age is imperative: Since music can be used to soothe, practicing an instrument can serve as an excellent distraction. And, hey, it will even help improve a musician’s skills, inevitably increasing confidence. That’s a win-win situation if you ask us!

Music can be a release, as well as an escape, for people. Of course we encourage everybody to take up an instrument and get lost in practicing, but we know that isn’t for everyone. So we’ve created a playlist full of Empowering Songs in hopes that this can help. Listening to music that empowers you when you’re feeling down can really make the world of a difference. Check it out on our Spotify account, or you can play it directly from this post below.
